Community Health Outreach: A Day of Impact and Care<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On August 17, 2024, The Ochola Kamili Foundation- Koru, was abuzz with activity and hope as the foundation in partnership with Muhoroni County Hospital conducted a transformative Community Health Outreach. This event was a testament to the power of collaboration and the vital role of Primary Health Care (PHC) in ensuring accessible and comprehensive healthcare services at the community level.<\/p>

\u00a0It was a significant initiative that saw the convergence of community health units, healthcare volunteers, and local leaders, all working towards a common goal\u2014improving community health.<\/p>

Outreach Activities<\/strong> The event was flagged off by Nancy Ogada, the Executive Director of the Ochola Kamili Foundation, amidst a gathering of notable attendees including:<\/p>

  • Muhoroni County Hospital Superintendent<\/p><\/li>

  • Departmental Head, Community Unit at Muhoroni County Hospital<\/p><\/li>

  • Volunteer Health Care Workers<\/p><\/li>

  • Representatives from Muhoroni-Koru Ward Practice Group<\/p><\/li>

  • Local community leaders<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

    Throughout the day, a variety of health services were offered to the community, including:<\/p>

    1. Health Talks<\/strong>: Informative sessions on various health topics.<\/p><\/li>

    2. Free Medical Care & Health Screening<\/strong>: Comprehensive check-ups for various health conditions.<\/p><\/li>

    3. Laboratory Testing<\/strong>: On-site tests for early detection of diseases.<\/p><\/li>

    4. Eye and Ear Examinations<\/strong>: Screenings to detect and address vision and hearing issues.<\/p><\/li>

    5. Cervical Cancer Screening<\/strong>: Crucial screening for early detection of cervical cancer.<\/p><\/li>

    6. Vaccination Services<\/strong>: Immunizations to protect against various diseases.<\/p><\/li>

    7. Family Planning Counseling & Services<\/strong>: Guidance on family planning and reproductive health.<\/p><\/li>

    8. Nutritional Assessment and Counseling<\/strong>: Evaluations and advice on maintaining a healthy diet.<\/p><\/li><\/ol>

      The event successfully provided care to 176 community members, addressing a range of health issues. Here\u2019s a breakdown of the demographics and services provided:<\/p>

      • Gender<\/strong>: 68 males and 108 females.<\/p><\/li>

      • Age<\/strong>: 152 adults and 24 children.<\/p><\/li>

      • Common Ailments<\/strong>: In adults, malaria, hypertension, and joint pain; in children, upper respiratory tract infections like coughs, colds, and runny noses.<\/p><\/li>

      • Services Provided<\/strong>: 156 outpatient consultations, 40 laboratory tests, 10 cervical cancer screenings, and 5 vaccinations.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

        The Community Health Outreach was a remarkable success, demonstrating the profound impact of collaborative efforts in enhancing community health. The event would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the Ochola Kamili Foundation and the volunteer healthcare workers from the Kisumu County Government, led by Muhoroni County Hospital.<\/p>
